Pristina/Prizren, May 2014. Her Excellency Mrs Atifete Jahjaga, President of the Republic of Kosovo, bestowed the Mother Teresa Humanitarian Presidential Medal to His Excellency Mr Anthony Bailey, OBE, GCSS, on 23 May 2014 at a ceremony held at the Office of The President in Pristina.
Mr Anthony Bailey received this honour in his capacity of the Grand Magistral Delegate for Inter-Religious Relations of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George in recognition of his ten years of humanitarian and interfaith activities in the country.
In a letter received from Buckingham Palace dated 11 June 2014, Her Majesty The Queen has granted Mr Bailey an Unrestricted Permission to receive and wear this award.
Attending the ceremony were His Eminence Renato Raffaele Cardinal Martino, Grand Prior of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, Mr Petrit Selimi, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo and several advisors of the Kosovan Head of State.
The Mother Teresa Humanitarian Medal, one of the highest national honours of Kosovo, is awarded in high recognition in administering charitable, humanitarian and spiritual activities in Kosovo.
Whilst in Kosovo, Mr Anthony Bailey held meetings with the His Excellency Mr Hashim Thaçi, Prime Minister of the Republic of Kosovo and Mr Enver Hoxhaj, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kosovo. Anthony also attended and spoke at the three day interfaith conference ‘Religion and Politics: Enhancing Interfaith Dialogue as a Means of Democratic Development’ organised in Prizren by the Kosovo Foreign Ministry in partnership with the Tony Blair Faith Foundation and the Community of St Egiddio. It was sponsored by the British Council, the Royal Norwegian Embassy and the United States Embassy in Kosovo. The event was attended by over 190 leading faith, government, diplomatic and charitable organisations form across the world.
