London, July 2014. HE Mr Anthony Bailey, GCSS, of the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George, London, has been awarded the Order of Mercy, a prestigious medal, for his voluntary service over many years to charities and non profit organisations in the United Kingdom and overseas. The awards ceremony took place at The Mansion House, in the City of London on 28 July 2014, courtesy of the Lord Mayor of London and held in the presence of the Sheriff of the City, and many other distinguished guests.

The Rt Hon the Lord Lingfield, President of the League of Mercy said “Mr Anthony Bailey has done extraordinary work for the welfare of others and those most in need. He is a marvellous example of someone whose longstanding and voluntary dedication to the service and welfare of others is noteworthy and remarkable and we were delighted to be able to make this well deserved award to him.

The Rt Hon Dr Vincent Cable, MP, Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and Member of Parliament for Twickenham added: “I was delighted to hear from Lord Lingfield that you have been honoured with the award of the Order of Mercy for your charitable work with the Sacred Military Constantinian Order of St George. Voluntary work is invaluable and rightly applauded. With a growing population of frail and elderly, volunteer helpers are needed as never before. To have been singled out by the League of Mercy Foundation is a rare distinction.

The League of Mercy was founded on 30th of March 1899 by Royal Charter of Queen Victoria. It was instigated by the Prince of Wales (later Edward VII) who became its first Grand President. Subsequently two further Princes of Wales (later George V and Edward VIII) and HRH Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester succeeded him in this office. The League was refounded as a nationwide registered charity in 1999 and now continues the work of the original royal founder.
