London, December 2015. A new report examining the wide-ranging consequences of a UK vote to leave the European Union was launched by British Influence on 7 December 2015 at Citibank, London. The report, which includes a contribution by Anthony Bailey, OBE, Chairman of Anthony Bailey Consulting and Co-President of British Influence looks at the complexity of economical, political, constitutional issues that would need to be addressed if the country decided to withdraw its EU membership.

Brexit: What would happen if the UK voted to leave?” was presented by Nicholas Kent, Director of Research at British Influence at an event attended by members of the parliament and peers, businesses, diplomats, representatives of the media and experts on EU matters. Speakers included Roger Bootle, Managing Director of Capital Economics and a columnist for the Daily Telegraph, Vicky Pryce, Chief Economic Adviser at the Centre for Economics and Business Research, David Campbell Bannerman, Conservative MEP for the East of England and Stephen Kinnock, Labour MP for Aberavon.

In introducing the report Anthony Bailey said: “The question at the heart of the European referendum is simple yet fundamentally important: how should the UK engage with the rest of the world? Should we remain an open and engaged society that plays its full part in European, Commonwealth and world affairs or should we seek a new path? The future of this country is more in play now than it has been for many decades: the referendum is a battle over the identity of the UK and its constituent nations. The trouble is that the consequences of a Brexit vote have not been fully explored or understood. They need to be.

Launched in 2013, British Influence campaigns to change the terms of the European debate by providing a positive vision of Britain’s role as a leader in Europe. Anthony Bailey has recently joined former Chancellor Ken Clarke MP as co-President of the pro-European think tank to ‘campaign for a new path for the United Kingdom where Britain is at the centre of influence in Europe and the world.’
